Hurricane Magic is a middle grade, low fantasy graphic novel. It’s a magic school story centered on three kids struggling (or refusing!) to fit into their new schools at the start of middle school. Rosanna is new to the magic school. Camila is the daughter of the headmistress of the magic school but now at the public middle school. Miguel is a new arrival to town from Guatemala and starts at the public school before being transferred to the magic school. The magic in this world is animist, so things like plants, animals, wind, etc. are anthropomorphic with whims of their own. The story culminates with a hurricane passing through town, which Rosanna accidentally kicked up further with magic she doesn’t understand. The three kids find themselves out in the middle of the storm, but together calm it down and get themselves to safety.
